124 years. Six generations.

one family farm

The farm has been in my family for over 120 years, with each generation adding its own chapter to the story. My great-great-grandfather settled here in 1900 with his young family in tow, building a life on this land that would become the foundation for so many after him. Over time, life pulled the farm in different directions, and like any old place and many small family farms, it began to show its age.

But Carey and I saw something more—we saw the history, the potential, and the chance to rebuild.

So, piece by piece, we’re pouring everything we have into restoring and revitalizing this land, not just for us, but for our girls and the generations to come. We started with a small herd of black angus crossbred cattle and while we continue to grow that herd, we have since added pastured hogs and specialty cut flowers to the operation.

from my roots to our reality

- Carey’s perspective

I’ve always known I wanted to farm. The dream was there—I just didn’t know when or if it would ever happen. Then Melissa came back into my life, and I knew farming was in my future. I just didn’t know how big we were going to make it. I had the ability to work hard, but she was the missing piece and together, we’ve built something greater than I ever imagined.

My vision for this place is simple: a happy family, a thriving farm, a healthy herd, and a place that supports and educates our community. I want our customers to know exactly where their food comes from and to trust the hands that raised it. Whether it’s our beef, pork, or flowers, we take pride in producing quality products that people can feel good about.

It’s been rewarding to be part of rebuilding the farm and to see the transformation—from where it was to where it is now. One of my proudest moments was when our butcher sent us pictures of our pork and said, “Nice work, kids.” That was a moment that reminded me we were doing something right.

This farm is more than just a business—it’s who I am. It’s me, rough around the edges and expensive. (Mel is going to love that!) But at its core, it’s about family. I want our daughters to grow up loving this place, to want to come back to it, and to carry forward the values we’re teaching them every day. I believe that life gives back what you put into it, whether it’s family, career, or marriage. That’s what I hope they take away from growing up here.

Farming isn’t always easy, but it’s what I love. Watching this farm grow alongside our family has been the greatest reward, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

what do the girls think?

There’s so much more to farm life than people realize. It’s not just feeding animals in the morning and at night—there are many small things that go into it. The work never really stops, and there’s never a true break. That’s why it has to be done by people who love it, because if you don’t have the passion for it, it’s not going to work.

Our farm is a comforting place. Family is all around us, and no matter what, I know they’ll always be here for me if I need them. Seeing everything my parents have put into rebuilding the farm makes me so proud. They’ve taught me that success doesn’t just happen or get handed to you—you have to work for it.

Some of my favorite moments on the farm have been with the horses. They were my safe space when I needed one, a place where I could escape for a few extra minutes and just be. And even though feeding the cows can drive me crazy when they get wild, I love being out on the farm, working alongside my family and being part of it all.

I love the farm! I climb the gates, and ride the tractor with Daddy. The cows are the best when I get to scratch their heads - and bully is a good boy! Mommy loves to grow her flowers and is always in the garden, and we all take care of all the animals. I like it when I get to ride the buggy with my sissy too! There’s always chores to do.
